Ball Pythons |

| Home | Home Can ball pythons make good pets? I say yes! Ball Pythons are said to be good beginner snakes. The first thing you need to know before buying a snake is that you will end up spending as much, if not more, setting up your pet's habitat than you will on the actual snake. First you will need to purchase some type of secure cage or aquarium from which your snake cannot escape. You will need at least one heat source for the cage; I prefer two, such as an under-tank heat pad or a heat lamp. Next you need some type of a hide box or something the snake can hide under to feel safe. You will need a water bowl large enough for the snake to fit in for soaking and some type of bedding, preferably at least and inch deep. When you first get your snake set up in it's new home, it is best to leave it alone for a week or two to allow it to become comfortable. Ball pythons usually don't eat and don't like to be handled if they are under any type of stress. I wouldn't try to handle the snake until it has eaten a few meals and is completely comfortable. Another reason ball pythons make good pets is because they are not usually known to bite; and if they do, it doesn't hurt any worse than getting a shot at the doctor. |
